Lately I have been using the dvorak
keyboard layout more and more often. For a number of months I had stopped all together and I was quite suprised at how easy it was to remember the layout and use again after such a long break. My typing speed is still rather slow and so I haven't switched completely. I really only use it when I have the time and am not in a rush to get things done.
I just completed a quick 3 minute online test at typingtest.com
and came in at a net speed of 23 WPM. I'll have to see if I can increase that over the next few weeks/months.

Over the past few evenings I've sunk some time into setting up mame and zsnes in freevo and things appear to be working quite well right now. I went out an picked up a couple of Saitek P880
gamepads at lunch today and got them all hooked up this evening. They are working great and do quite well for this setup.
It took some time to figure out xmame
but after reading through some articles I found what I needed and it's working great now. I'll try and get around to posting all my findings/settings for xmame and zsnes on my freevo
page sometime soon and maybe even try and submit some stuff to the freevo wiki if I have time.
I was also having some irq problems with my freevo box the other day after upgrading to 184.108.40.206 but solved all my problems by reverting back to 2.6.7. Things seem to be working great now so I think I'll just stick with 2.6.7 for a while as I can't find any reason to upgrade at all.

I did a bunch of work on the freevo box this evening and updated the kernel to the newest release (220.127.116.11) along with the newest epia patches. I've put together a tiny amount of information
that is mostly just handly links if your setting up freevo using debian on a Via M10000 system. Since I was recompiling I decided to apply the bootsplash patch as well since it works quite well on the dedicated system and makes it feel more like an appliance than a computer. I also took a few pictures of my setup. The first pictures is the bootup splash screen (using the "swirlpool" theme), the second is the main freevo screen after it has booted up, and the third is freevo playing some music.

A couple nights ago I finally got around to hooking up my surround speakers and setup my home theatre system how it's suppost to work. I went to test the system out and noticed that my freevo box isn't outputing a 5.1 channel on the spdif output anymore. I'm not sure why yet it or when it stopped working. I did some tinkering with the setup but had no luck so I'll have to dig a little deeper to find the cause. Oh well, it's not like I have all that many thing to watch/listen to with 5 channel audio anyways, and if I do I can probably just watch them in my dvd player. But, it's still bugging me...

Setup the webcam and got it working again on the site. I had it offline for quite a while due to the problem I was having trying to get both webcams working on the same system at the same time. I have givin up as they seem to go crazy when they are both capturing and so it's just a single feed now. So now its only half as useless as before. I'm not sure if that makes it more useless or less useless but either way it probably doesn't matter.

Camping went quite well and turned out to be a really great time. The weather was threatening to rain the entire time and finally did but thankfully only overnight on the last evening. So things were a bit wet packing up, but that wasn't so bad. The new sleeping bag worked great and was very warm and I ended up sleeping with it half open, so I'm pretty happy with it. I got some really great pictures as well which I will post online a little later maybe. Good times all in all.
I'm back to work tomorrow and doing the daily routine again. The week off was very nice and I'm quite glad I finally had a little time off. Speaking of which I need to book the few remaining days I have left sometime before the end of September. Seeing as it's nearing the end of August I should probably do that soon.

Today I'm off to go camping for a couple of nights at campsite 8 in Frontenac Park. It should be a good time, and hopefully it doesn't rain too much. I bought a new down sleeping bag yesterday since my current sleeping bag isn't quite warm enough sometimes, and I ended up being quite cold last time I was camping.
The last couple of days off have been really nice. It's amazing the stuff you can get done when you don't have to work. Although most of the time has been spent playing computer games and sleeping I guess :)

Well today is my last day at work and then I'm off for a week. I was thinking about this a couple of days ago and I believe this will be the longest time I've been away from work in over 4 years. It should be nice for a change. Going to be doing some camping duing the week as well which I'm looking forward to. I'll probably end up playing doom 3 for a good portion of the time too :) I've also been playing alot of SimCity 4 lately as well which is probably a bad thing because it eats up soooo much of my time. But I guess if you enjoy it thats all that matters.

Holy crap. I've been waiting for this game for a loooong time and it's finally almost out. I downloaded a "full trial" copy of the net on the weekend and my god it is frigin sweet. I will surely be grabbing a copy of this game once it's in stores around here. ID Software does it once again... I've never been so scared while playing a computer game. I find myself constantly running to hide everytime I hear something in the game. The actual story of the game seems to be pretty good thus far as well which is unusual for an ID Software game.
As for the system requirements... damn. My machine (Athlon XP 2000+/768 meg of ram/NVidia 5900XT) just gets by running the game in 640x480. However the game does look really amazing in even that resolution. My "detail" settings are set to medium as well.
