I have been having one hell of a bad time with hard drives over the past week. Earlier this week I decided to setup a raid 5 using three 60 gig drives I had in my server system. So I went out and picked up a 160 gig drive to copy everything over to and cleared off the three drives. I setup the raid and as it was building it failed. After doing some checking the one 60 gig drive had a bunch of bad blocks and was on it's way out. So I took it out, and decided to move some other drives around so that I could get the other 60 gig drive I was using for my root filesystem free to use for the raid. Since I was doing all the moving and I needed even more space now to move my root drive and home directories, I went out and got a new 80 gig drive to mirror together with an existing 80 gig drive I had in the system. I setup the mirror and got everything up and running and all was well (finally).
So then last night my gaming machine starts acting up and being all weird. So I boot it into linux and find that I'm getting all kinds of crazy drive seek errors. Run a badblocks check on the drive, and it's pretty much dead now. I can't get anything to boot off it and half the time it doesn't exist when you turn the computer on. So I picked up yet another new hard drive for it now.
Now I'm just waiting for my linux desktop machines hard drive to start dieing and then I should have all new drives for every damn machine... Arg.

I did some rearanging of the fish tank a couple of days ago things seems to be going much better for the fish now. He isn't nearly as frightened as he was before and is out about in the tank alot more now. He is still a little scared every once in a while and hides in his new cave but usually only for a few seconds until he is back out and checking whats going on. He is also eating much better too which is a positive sign.

Went and got myself a haircut today finally. My hair was once again getting quite wild and crazy as it usually does. It's quite refreshing especially with this warm weather lately. Our pool table at work got refelted yesterday and I played a few games on the new table today. It's much nicer now that the ball goes exactly where you hit it. Makes for a much better game.
This weekend I'll be camping with my son Landon, and my girlfriends brother Ezra which should be fun and interesting at the same time. Both the boys are six and although Ezra has been camping before, Landon hasn't and I'm not sure how well he'll take to sleeping in a tent. I figure it won't be much of a problem though as they will probably be so tired by the end of they day it won't matter where they are sleeping.

As I was working on this windows 2000 server today and waiting for 4 minutes while it was "saving my settings" before doing a reboot in order for my changes to take effect I realized the biggest difference between troubleshooting a windows problem vs a unix problem. With windows you take a look at the problem, make the change and then wait a whole bunch to see if it worked, then try again. With unix you can just hammer solutions out and try them without waiting for anything and thus most of your time is spent thinking of solutions and using your brian instead of blindly clicking options and sitting on your ass hoping they might work.
And what the hell is up with the "saving your settings" thing anyways? Why does that have to take so god damn long? And what does it save that doesn't get saved when I use the reset button?

Did an upgrade to freevo a couple days ago to bring things up to the 1.5rc4 release and did a debian upgrade as well. Everything went pretty smooth and seems to be working well.

My single fish seemed to be doing alright after the move and everything but lately has been hidding almost all of the time and seems very scared. I'm not sure what the problem is as I can't pinpoint when it started happening exactly or what might have caused it. He hides under this one rock pretty much all of the time now and seems to only come out in the evening. When he does wander the tank in the evening he doesn't seem scared at all either which is the strange part. This has been happening for over a week now and at first I thought it might just be a temporary thing...

Well today kinda sucked this morning. I for some reason thought I started at 10am today but I actually was suppost to start at 8am. So needless to say I was quite late for work again. I gotta figure out this whole schedule thing and get that sorted out. I'm so horrible with time.
I'm mostly settled in here at the new place now as well. We have everything unpacked and whatnot and it finally feels like I'm living here. Bought a new bed this week and it arives on Saturday... It'll be nice when that finally gets here as sleeping in the living room on the futon is really starting to get old. Also bought a new rug to cover up these beat up floors in this place and it seems to work very nicely in the living room.

I'm finally moved into the new place. It was alot more work than I like to do in one day but it's pretty much done. I'm going to go and move slavery (my internet gateway/file/email/web/ftp/nfs/network boot/samba server) over to the new place today as the internet is suppost to be hooked up now too. My fish survived the move without any problems and seems to be doing well. My cat went a little insane when she got to the new place but seems to be settling in ok now that she knows she is the only cat the house. She was pretty tense last night when she got there but took the drive over in a pillow case pretty well and just sat very still.
I also got a new subwoofer and amp for the car on the weekend as a friend of mine got a deal on one. I got it all hooked up on wednesday night and does it ever make a difference. Offloading the deep bass from the factory speakers allows them to play alot more smoothly without ratling as well.
