reminder to not use fedex

Just a reminder to myself, not to use fedex for cross border shipments:

I ordered a small boat kit from CLC boat works, total value in CAD of $282.32. ($200 USD). I also paid $43 USD on top of that in shipping which is fine.

Fedex delivers it, and then sends an invoice for the following:

 $11.40 disbursment fee
 $54.00 clearance entry fee
  $8.50 hst on the fees
$36.70 hst on the item itself
$110.60 total (CAD)

I understand that I have to pay the HST on the imported item, and a fee to manage and collect it, but a $54 clearance entry fee? And HST on the fees is a bit of an insult, although not the fault of fedex. Ugh.
